Who is Josh Payne?
Josh Payne is a professional darts player from Gravesend in Kent, born in 1993. He throws right-handed and walks on to "Here Comes the Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze. He came through the PDC's youth system, winning a Challenge Tour event in 2013 and Development Tour events in 2014 and 2016, and earned his first PDC Tour Card through the Youth Tour rankings.
How did Josh Payne break through?
His first PDC ranking title came at Players Championship 6 in Barnsley in April 2016, where he beat James Wade 6-5 in the final and finished with a 116 checkout. The win qualified him for the 2016 World Matchplay. In May 2018 he won Players Championship 12 in Milton Keynes, beating Peter Wright 6-5 in the final.
He has played in the PDC's televised majors, including the World Championship, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts. His best major run is a quarter-final at the 2019 UK Open.
What has Josh Payne done since?
Payne lost his Tour Card at the end of 2021 and played online leagues in 2022, winning a MODUS Super Series phase that July. He won his card back at UK Q-School in January 2023, coming from 5-3 down to beat Chris Quantock 6-5. He is not on the PDC Tour Card lists for 2025 or 2026 and is outside the PDC Order of Merit top 64 as of October 2026. Red Dragon's profile says he now competes in the MODUS online league.
