Pick up two darts of the same weight and the difference is immediate — one is long and pencil-slim, the other short and broad enough to fill your fingers. That is tungsten percentage doing its work. The denser the alloy, the more weight fits into a narrow barrel, and the more room three darts have in a treble bed.

Shape decides the rest. A straight barrel leaves your grip position entirely open; a torpedo or teardrop swells to give your fingers somewhere to sit; a front-loaded barrel tips nose-down and drops into the board where a centre-weighted one flies level.
